Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about naturopathy, what to expect from a consultation, and how to get started.
About naturopathy
What is naturopathy?
Naturopathy is a holistic system of healthcare that uses natural therapies to support the body's innate healing capacity. It combines traditional healing wisdom with modern scientific research to address the root causes of illness, rather than just treating symptoms. Naturopaths use herbal medicine, nutritional therapy, and lifestyle counselling to restore health and prevent disease.
Is naturopathy evidence-based?
Yes. Modern naturopathy is grounded in scientific evidence. We use peer-reviewed research to inform treatment recommendations, combined with traditional knowledge that has stood the test of time — including herbal medicines, nutritional interventions, and lifestyle modifications with extensive research behind them.
Can naturopathy help with serious health conditions?
Naturopathy can support many conditions, from acute illness to chronic disease — including digestive disorders, hormonal imbalances, autoimmune conditions, and chronic fatigue. Naturopaths work alongside conventional practitioners rather than replacing them, and for serious conditions we may recommend an integrative approach combining both.
How does naturopathy differ from conventional medicine?
Naturopathy views the body as an interconnected system rather than isolated parts, focusing on identifying and addressing root causes rather than suppressing symptoms. We emphasise prevention and education, empowering you to take an active role in your health, with treatment personalised to you and your circumstances.
Getting started
Is naturopathy right for me?
Naturopathy is suitable for almost everyone. Whether you're managing a chronic condition, want to prevent future illness, need support through a major life change, or simply want to optimise your wellbeing, naturopathic care can help — particularly if you want a natural, holistic approach and an active role in your own health.
What should I expect from treatment?
Expect a partnership. We'll work together to understand your goals and build a realistic, achievable treatment plan, with clear explanations of why each therapy is recommended for you. You'll get ongoing support, progress monitoring, and adjustments along the way — and be empowered with a better understanding of your own body.
How do I book an appointment?
Book online through our secure booking system, powered by Cliniko, or contact us directly by phone or email.
Appointments & consultations
What happens during an initial consultation?
Your initial consultation is a comprehensive 60-minute appointment. We'll take a detailed health history, discuss your current concerns, review your diet and lifestyle, and explore your health timeline, family history, stress levels, sleep, and digestion.
By the end, you'll receive a personalised treatment plan including dietary recommendations, lifestyle strategies, and — if appropriate — herbal prescriptions or supplement suggestions. Included:
- Referral for pathology testing, if applicable
- A photo of your iris
How should I prepare for my first appointment?
Bring any recent pathology results, a list of current medications and supplements, and notes about your symptoms and health concerns. It helps to track your symptoms for a few days beforehand, and to bring any previous medical records relevant to your concerns. Wear comfortable clothing, as a physical assessment may be performed.
How long until I see results?
This varies depending on your condition and how long you've had it. Some people notice improvements within days, while chronic conditions may take several weeks or months — acute conditions generally respond faster than chronic ones. We typically recommend a minimum of three follow-up appointments to see the best results.
How often will I need follow-up appointments?
This depends on your individual needs. Initially, we often recommend appointments every 2–4 weeks to monitor progress and adjust treatment. As your health improves, appointments typically become less frequent — some clients transition to quarterly check-ins, while others with chronic conditions may need ongoing monthly support.
Treatments & services
What conditions do you treat?
We support a wide range of conditions including digestive disorders (IBS, bloating, reflux), hormonal imbalances (PCOS, endometriosis, thyroid issues), women's health concerns, chronic fatigue, stress and anxiety, skin conditions, autoimmune disease, and sleep disorders — plus preventative care for those wanting to maintain good health.
Are herbal medicines safe?
When prescribed by a qualified naturopath, herbal medicines are generally very safe. We check for interactions with any medications you're taking, source all herbs from reputable, quality-controlled suppliers, and monitor your response, adjusting as needed. Always let your GP know about any herbal medicines you're taking.
Will I need to take supplements?
Not necessarily. While supplements can be valuable therapeutic tools, we always prioritise food as medicine first. If a nutritional deficiency is identified, or you need a targeted therapeutic dose of a nutrient, we may recommend a high-quality supplement — always personalised to your needs.
Do you prescribe medications?
Naturopaths in Australia cannot prescribe pharmaceutical medications. Brooke works collaboratively with your GP or other healthcare providers, and will recommend you see them if medication is appropriate — her focus is natural therapies including herbal medicine, nutritional supplements, and lifestyle interventions.
Can I continue my current medications?
Absolutely. Always continue prescribed medications unless directed otherwise by your prescribing doctor. Brooke will check for interactions between your medications and any natural therapies, and can work with your GP to provide integrative care that supports your overall health.
