Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about naturopathy, our services, and what to expect.

About Naturopathy

  • Naturopathy is a holistic system of healthcare that uses natural therapies to support the body's innate healing capacity. It combines traditional healing wisdom with modern scientific research to address the root causes of illness, rather than just treating symptoms. Naturopaths use herbal medicine, nutritional therapy, lifestyle counseling, and other natural modalities to restore health and prevent disease.

  • Yes! Modern naturopathy is grounded in scientific evidence. We use peer-reviewed research to inform our treatment recommendations and combine this with traditional knowledge that has stood the test of time. Many natural therapies have extensive research supporting their effectiveness, including herbal medicines, nutritional interventions, and lifestyle modifications.

  • Naturopathy can support many health conditions, from acute illnesses to chronic diseases. While naturopaths work alongside conventional medical practitioners rather than replacing them, natural therapies can be highly effective for conditions like digestive disorders, hormonal imbalances, autoimmune conditions, and chronic fatigue. For serious conditions, we may recommend integrative care that combines naturopathic and conventional treatments.

  • Naturopathy takes a holistic approach, viewing the body as an interconnected system rather than isolated parts. We focus on identifying and addressing root causes rather than suppressing symptoms. Naturopaths also emphasise prevention and patient education, empowering you to take an active role in your health. Treatment is personalised to you and your circumstances.

Appointments & Consultations

  • Your initial consultation is a comprehensive 60 minute appointment where we'll take a detailed health history, discuss your current concerns, review your diet and lifestyle, and may perform relevant assessments.

We'll explore your health timeline, family history, stress levels, sleep patterns, and digestion.

By the end, you'll receive a personalised treatment plan including dietary recommendations, lifestyle strategies, and if appropriate, herbal prescriptions or supplement suggestions.

    Included:

    • Referral for pathology testing if applicable

    • A photo of your iris

  • Bring any recent pathology results, a list of current medications and supplements, and notes about your symptoms and health concerns. It's helpful to track your symptoms for a few days beforehand. If you have previous medical records relevant to your current concerns, bring those too. Wear comfortable clothing as a physical assessment may be performed.

  • This varies depending on your condition and how long you've had it. Some people notice improvements within days, while chronic conditions may take several weeks or months. Generally, acute conditions respond faster than chronic ones. We typically recommend three follow up appointments as a minimum to see the best results.

  • Follow-up frequency depends on your individual needs and condition. Initially, we often recommend appointments every 2-4 weeks to monitor progress and adjust treatments. As your health improves, appointments may become less frequent. Some clients eventually transition to quarterly wellness check-ins, while others with chronic conditions may need ongoing monthly support.

Treatments & Services

  • We support a wide range of conditions including digestive disorders (IBS, bloating, reflux), hormonal imbalances (PCOS, endometriosis, thyroid issues), women's health concerns, chronic fatigue, stress and anxiety, skin conditions, autoimmune diseases, sleep disorders, and more. We also provide preventative care and wellness optimization for those wanting to maintain good health.

  • When prescribed by a qualified naturopath, herbal medicines are generally very safe. We carefully check for interactions with any medications you're taking and consider your individual circumstances. All herbs we prescribe are from reputable, quality-controlled sources. We monitor your response to treatment and adjust as needed. Always inform your GP about any herbal medicines you're taking.

  • Not necessarily.

While supplements can be valuable therapeutic tools, we always prioritize food as medicine first. If nutritional deficiencies are identified or if you need targeted therapeutic doses of certain nutrients, we may recommend high-quality supplements. Any supplement recommendations are personalised to your needs and circumstances.

  • Naturopaths in Australia cannot prescribe pharmaceutical medications. However, Brooke will work collaboratively with your GP or other healthcare providers and can recommend you see them if medication is appropriate for your condition. Brooke specialises in natural therapies including herbal medicines, nutritional supplements, and lifestyle interventions.

  • Absolutely! Brooke will work alongside your conventional medical care. Always continue your prescribed medications unless directed otherwise by your prescribing doctor. Brooke will check for any interactions between your medications and natural therapies and can work with your GP to provide integrative care that supports your overall health.
